The Global Challenges Research Fund invests in research that supports economic and social wellbeing in developing countries.
The Scottish Funding Council has awarded GCRF funding to Heriot-Watt University since 2016. Our programme has supported 46 projects in 15 countries in South America, South-East Asia and Africa. These pages show the impact of our research on some of the poorest, most vulnerable communities in the world.
Over the 5 years of the programme we have built up strong international partnerships with universities, government agencies, business partners and civil society organisations . This means that the communities who can benefit from our research have a voice in defining the problems and possible solutions.
